As part of the ongoing update of risk management regulations in the Netherlands, Johan Ingvarson was invited to review the new regulatory approach. The Netherlands has been a pioneer in risk management in general and managing risk in land-use planning in particular. The Dutch regulations has for years served as input and inspiration to other countries’ regulations. Assessing risk management regulations is at the core of Johan’s research at LTH.

As per Jan 1st 2024, the Dutch risk management regulations will change, focussing less on the use of societal risk measures and more on individual risk measures. As part of the update, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), invited a group of international experts to review the plans on how to implement the new regulations in practice. The peer review team included recognized experts from academia and regulators representing the US, UK, France, Italy, Norway, Belgium and Sweden.
