On 22nd of March 2023, Irja Malmio had her mid-term seminar at the division. Irja’s presented her research which concerns the relationships between the concepts social sustainability and security. She is interested in how they are overlapping and mutually constituting concepts, but at the same time, they are opposing, conflicting and in several ways paradoxical.

Irja is curious about the world we live in as a sociotechnical system and the role of sociotechnical imaginaries: our visions and ideas about the future and the things that we value, what we consider to be ethical and just, and how these ideas become aligned with technological innovation.

The invited mid-term discussant was Professor Matthias Leese from the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences, ETH Zurich.
